	<title>David Benforado: Searching (2008-05-08 - 2008-06-14)</title>
	<link>http://www.absolutearts.com/artsnews/2008/05/08/35009.html</link>
<description>Thanassis Frissiras Galleryin Athens is pleased to present the latest paintings of David Benforado. The exhibition is entitled "Searching" and it will run from May 8th until June 14th, 2008. While still maintaining certain aspects from his previous abstract period, which was solely characterized from gestural painting, David Benforado shifts into representational painting and explores the issue of the human quest. For him, the task of the quest is not just the modern civilised man's effort to approach a nature which he himself has rendered unapproachable, inhospitable and/or uninhabitable; more importantly, it is man's attempt to restore that vital but no longer automatic relationship with his own self.

	<title>David Black, New York Paintings (2008-05-08 - 2008-05-31)</title>
	<link>http://www.absolutearts.com/artsnews/2008/05/08/35011.html</link>
<description>Denise Bibro Fine Art, 529 West 20th Street, 4W, Chelsea, NYC, is pleased to present David Black: New York Paintings. The artists first solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring seventeen vibrant, humorous, and playful depictions of city life, as well as a group of enchanting black and white engravings, will be on view May 8th through the 31st, 2008. The New York Paintings capture the citys boundless energy and evidence the artists love for his birthplace. The canvases hum with color and entertain with incisive wit. Whether portraying the social elite dining at the Plaza, canine enthusiasts at the Westminster Kennel Club Show, chess players lingering over a game at Washington Square Parks famed tables, or crowds reveling at the Greenwich Village Halloween parade, Black inserts humor, irony, and generally pokes fun. Grace Glueck of The New York Times wrote of Blacks work: These cartoony, untutored oils, bubbling with color, unabashedly tackle everything from landscape to social mores, while The New Yorker succinctly noted: Black is at his most delicious as a satirist.

	<title>Stefan Kuerten: Black Mirror (2008-05-07 - 2008-05-31)</title>
	<link>http://www.absolutearts.com/artsnews/2008/05/08/35012.html</link>
<description>The directors of Thomas Dane Gallery are pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by German painter, Stefan Kuerten. Kuerten's approach to painting is one of the most coherent and singular of his time. In line with the now notorious photographic teachings of the Dusseldorf Kunstakademie - where he also studied - it consists in applying a prescribed formal resolution to a consistent subject matter. In Kueten's practice this translates into a distinctive network of colours and decorative patterns, applied with the precision of a clock-maker, and interwoven with luxurious yet ambiguous bronzed, golden and silvered grounds. </description>
