"Pro Arts New Visions 2008: Juried by Lucinda Barnes and Karen Tsujimoto"
2008-08-28 until 2008-10-24
ProArts Gallery
Oakland, CA, USA United States of America

Pro Arts presents New Visions 2008, an exhibition juried by Lucinda Barnes, Chief Curator and Director of Programs and Collections, Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive and Karen Tsujimoto, Senior Curator, Oakland Museum of California.  The New Visions exhibition aims to bring exposure to regional artists making work that explores fresh perspectives and fearlessly experiments with methods and themes in their work. Chosen artists may utilize experimental art forms, as well as conventional or traditional media. This year's New Visions jurors are Lucinda Barnes and Karen Tsujimoto. In her current position as Chief Curator and Director of Programs and Collections at Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, Lucinda Barnes has coordinated exhibitions such as The Measure of Time, Enrique Chagoya: Borderlandia, and Joan Jones: The Shape, the Scent, the Feel of Things. Barnes has also curated exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Boise Art Museum, and juried a wide range of national exhibitions with institutions such as the Anchorage Museum of History, San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas and the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Karen Tsujimoto is an accomplished curator and author. Her interest in modern and contemporary West Coast artists is demonstrated in her curation of The Art of Peter Voulkos, Dorothea Lange: Archive of an Artist, Transformation: The Art of Joan Brown, and Wayne Thiebaud. She spent fourteen years at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and then moved to the Oakland Museum of California where she is Senior Curator. Her devotion to the local art community is evidenced by her membership in various committees including the Education Advisory Committee of the California College of Arts and Crafts, Bay Area Coalition for the Visual Arts, and the Oakland Public Fund for the Arts.

New Visions is an annual competition and presents works juried by leading curators, directors, artists, and professionals working in the greater Bay Area arts community. Selections are made from original works presented in the Pro Arts' gallery.
