Late Landscape Paintings of Horace Trenerry
Art Gallery of New South Wales -
Sydney, AU Australia

An exhibition of nineteen works by Australian landscape artist, Horace Trenerry whose work has been compared to that of van Gogh and Monet, will open at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on 29 November. Horace Trenerry remained a relatively unknown artist outside his home state of South Australia. Even there his name was not a household word like that of Hans Heysen, the iconic master of Hahndorf who the younger painter so admired in his formative years. "I have got chilblains and once I nearly got sunstroke for art’s sake, for to paint nature you must be afield early and late. The frost soon melts and the sun moves on and no place ever looks quite the same again. That is why there is an endless freshness in landscape work."
- Horace Trenerry 11 July 1927

Faces You Might Know – Celebrating the Freedom of the Portrait Genre with Vadim Bora
Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio -
Asheville, NC USA United States of America

Featuring some 200 stunning portraits in oil, charcoal, pen and ink, bronze and terra cotta “Faces You Might Know – Celebrating the Freedom of the Portrait Genre with Vadim Bora” opens December 1, 2008 in downtown Asheville at Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio, and runs through December 14.
Everything that could be considered a portrait – from the few whispering lines of a simple sketch to an elegant drawing, humorous caricature, bitter satire to luscious oils and heavy sculpture – is presented in one show.
Above all, within each portrait, no matter what style the multi-stylistic Bora employs, the artist conveys the true sense of a person. The spirit of portraiture since its inception has been about the immediate contact between an artist and his model. Or sometimes between and artist and a character created wholly by the artist. Naked – Four Artists: Eric Fausnacht, Erin McGee Ferrell, Ed Marston, and Keith Sharpg
MUSE Gallery -
Philadelphia, PA USA United States of America

Naked – Four Artists: Eric Fausnacht, Erin McGee Ferrell, Ed Marston, and Keith Sharp. For the month of December, Muse Gallery presents the work of four artists in an exhibition entitled "Naked." Unfortunately, this exhibition does not contain any nudity. Instead, the title comes from the idea that when any artist exhibits his/hew work they are in a sense showing themselves naked by revealing their inner thoughts, feelings, and ideas through their work within a public setting. The four exhibiting artists are: Eric Fausnacht, Erin McGee Ferrell, Ed Marston, and Keith Sharp. Read Indepth Article

The Return of Religion and Other Myths
BAK, basis voor actuele kunst -
Utrecht, NL Netherlands

From 30 November 2008 until 1 March 2009, BAK, basis voor actuele kunst presents "The Return of Religion and Other Myths". The opening took place on Saturday 29 November 2008 at the Nicolaikerk, Utrecht, with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Rosi Braidotti, director of the Centre for the Humanities, Utrecht University. "The Return of Religion and Other Myth" is a large-scale multifaceted project, consisting of the exhibition "The Art of Iconoclasm", a discourse program taking place in early 2009 titled "On Post-Secularism", and the publication of a BAK Critical Reader on the subject in 2009. The project explores the popular assumption of the return of religion to the public sphere, contemporary politics, and the media in the West as a constitutive “myth.” Read Indepth Article

Let's Talk at the Jam Jar
Valerie Grove, Dubai
I recently saw a show at the Jam Jar in Dubai, which featured five young Pakistani artists from the Grey Noise Gallery in Lahore. The Jam Jar is one of the few real community arts organisations in Dubai so it doesn't have to be as commercially slick as the local norm. This means it can show work that is more youth oriented and often experimental.
The show was called "Let's Talk" and it represented a dialogue between the five artists in which the work shown is linked as if it were a conversation. The central pillar of the whole concept was a small catalogue containing actual email dialogue and images the five artists exchanged when the show was in the planning stage. It was essential to read this catalogue, not only to help you understand what you saw, but also because it enabled a real sense of involvement in the show itself.
