Using oil paints is the process of painting with varied pigments with a medium of drying oil that often includes linseed oil, poppy seek oil, safflower oil and walnut oil as a binder. Artists use several different oils to achieve different effects. Oil may also be boiled with resin or frankincense to create a varnish that has a lot of body and gloss. Oil paint was first used by Indian (Buddhist) and Chinese painters in western Afghanistan between the 5th and 10th century and did not gain popularity until about the 15th century. It's use finally migrated west during the Middle Ages and became the main medium during Northern Renaissance to replace the previous use of tempera paints. Norther European painters such as Jan van Eyck is often credited for inventing the use of oil paint on wood panel. After it's success in Northern Europe the use of oil paint migrated south to Italy where such notable artists as Leonardo da Vinci use it to pain the famous "Mona Lisa". Towards the end of the 15th century and beginning of the 16th century wood panels were replaced by canvas and oil on canvas as a medium became very popular and still is today. Rubens, Titian, Rembrandt, Raphael as well as Vermeer, most of the Impressionists such as Monet, Renoir as well as Van Gogh and Picasso and Kandinsky all uses oil paints as their main medium to apply paint onto canvas.

Jacqueline Weegels - My whole life I have created art somehow, as do most people one way or another. I grew up with a father who enjoyed painting large theater back drops and making larger than life papermache float creations. Although, I felt inspired by this, it somehow intimidated me and made me want to work small. Classical music, poetry, Jewish and Chassidic stories, traveling, the love for people and memories of eras gone but not forgotten, cities where I lived and worked, like Amsterdam, Berlin, Jerusalem, New York, or visited, like Prague and Sicily, are the main ingredients of my art. My art is like the water of the canals of my native Amsterdam, Rembrandts city, the deeper you look into it, the more you see. A reflection of a reflection of a reflection...look, what you see is not what you see. My art contains texts and letters, lets writing come alive, and reflects my deep connection with the Dutch 17th century Masters, German expressionism, Russian art and medieval miniatures. Guy Octaaf Moreaux - Since the end of August 2019 I moved back to Brussels, Belgium. The three years I spent in Kenya have been super interesting and moved me to paint my african impressions. I feel privileged to have learned so much of this wonderful part of the world which was quite foreign to me before. Life is full of emotions about people, nature, things etc...and leaving Kenya will be hard indeed. One of the biggest luxuries in life, is to live surrounded by beauty. This is what I am trying to do. And yes one can see beauty everywhere...it is a state of mind. Harmony is an integral part of beauty, this is what I am trying to convey in my work. It is indeed a necessity for me to create. It has always been this way for as far as I can remember. Not creating makes me feel empty and unfulfilled. Bryan Kemila - Artist Statement Bryan Kemila ------------------------------ PENDING ------------- BIOGRAPHY Bio - Bryan Kemila - Watercolour painter - Acrylic painter - Oil painter - Sculpting - Critical observer of current events. - Nothing on the planet is quite as compelling as the woman. I was born in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, Ive learned a number of skills. The list includes small engine repair, electrical wiring, construction, furniture building, commercial painting, sign painting, commercial graphics, logo design, bookkeeping and small business practices. As it turns out, the brush control and lettering skills improved. After 2 years of consistent practice, I realized my efforts surpassed the samples in the books. Gratitude must be given to the instruction on layout and design in The Mike Stevens Journal. I launched my own sign business, which I consider a successful enterprise. In my early years, sign painting involved simply a small tin of poster paint and a grey-squirrel tail brush. Back in the day, grocery stores used hand-painted, large paper banners to advertise their weekly specials. I believe an artist must experience the painting i?1/2 to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as i?1/2Abstract Realismi?1/2 and my strength is found in the composition. Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. Vladimir Volosov - Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity, and have recently teamed with SAVE THE BAY, a local Rhode Island eco-advocate organization, which receives 30 PER CENT of my proceeds. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. Ive done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorenas studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. Lora Vannoord - I am a Florida Artist originally from a small town in Michigan, now painting in Florida. My works are original oil paintings inspired by Mother Nature. I want to communicate my love of nature to help others see and appreciate the natural environment around them. My goal is to give others a calming and imaginative experience in their homes when they contemplate my oil paintings. I enjoy the creative composing of my landscapes using my store of images and my imagination. I combine my sketchbook images and photos to form my imaginary landscape. Stefan Fiedorowicz - The emotion in my work comes from somewhere deep down, and can speak to the inner part of each person... My work is intuitive and color is the language that I use to express an emotion. It is the interaction of colour that interests me. Painting does not come easy all the time, the more I paint the more difficult it becomes, or more exactly, the more I get stage fright. Krisztina Lantos - Krisztina Lantos of Budapest has lived in Italy, Ottawa, Montreal, Munich in Germany, Mississauga and, for the last 22 years in Oakville. She began painting in her late teens in Hungary and painted with a group of young artists for ten years before she came to Canada. For about the last 25 years, she has begun to experiment with her work more by emphasizing, and exaggerating colours and simplifying shapes to help express her ideas and intentions. I see everything so colourfully. I need colours to be strong because that is what expresses me. The things around us are all moving the trees, the bridges, the houses and the rocks are living creatures, not lifeless pictures. They speak to us. Vincent Von Frese - I love the reflection of a sense of wonder in nature while building a sculptural form. A clear presence of forms in metal, wood and stone has revealed to me a personal connection with what was formerly an inanimate object which has become transformed into a living presence quite alive and memorable to all who might be exposed to its existence. I believe we humans are generally speaking the sum total of all we have been and learned. Therefore I attempt to naturally transform my own life experience into each work I produce as art. Recognizing that life is seen and experienced by our senses individually it reveals cognition at varied levels of perception by each persons viewpoint individually. I am only concerned with how I myself personally perceive the art I am producing or have produced while in the act of being an artist. Art for me is the expression of my feelings, not thoughts, about chosen life impressions and experiences in an organized and aesthetic manner by way of my personal choice of material and method of craftsmanship.
